Summary[]

Hoss gets diverted by a hot air balloon while a family friend robs the Virginia City bank.

Plot[]

Ben welcomes an old Army friend, Major Cayley, to the Ponderosa. Ben will allow Major Cayley to use the Ponderosa as the site of his latest hot air balloon experiments. His goal is to develop an airship that can cross the ocean. Hoss is enthralled with the idea of flying in the air balloon.

Unknown to Ben, Major Cayley sent his two companions, Sargeant Hines and Private Kingsley, ahead to Carson City. The plan is to rob the bank in town using the balloon flight out on the Ponderosa as a diversion. Major Cayley plans to use that money to develop a fleet of airships.

To complicate matters, the major's daughter, Diana Cayley, arrives in town from back east. She knows her father is AWOL from the Army, but has no idea about his outlandish plan.
