Summary[]
The Cartwrights find a blind 11-year-old girl wandering around in the snow. Gabrielle is searching hopelessly for her grandfather. The family locates the old man; he's an unpleasant old hermit who doesn't like people, much less relatives.
Plot[]
Hoss and Joe are out riding when they come across a smashed wagon at the base of a cliff. After checking the man and woman in the wreckage they find that both have died. Seeing a doll with the wreck, Joe and Hoss search the area and find a young girl. Joe and Hoss take her back to the Ponderosa. They discover her name is Gabrielle, she is 11 years old and blind. She and her parents were on their way to visit her grandfather, a hermit who lives on the mountain.
The Cartwrights find a loving family to take her in, but Gabrielle wants to live with her grandfather. He is a a crusty old mountain hermit who wants nothing to do with anyone, including his orphaned granddaughter.
